General Contracting

General contractors are licensed construction professionals that have demonstrated their competency through education, experience, and examination by the corresponding state regulatory authorities. Contractor licenses are ranked according to the level of competency of the contractor and the limit of the construction services he may offer. In Florida, Division I contractors licenses are defined by the state as follows:
-
General Contractors (GC) meaning contractors whose services are unlimited as to the type of work they may do or contract for any activity requiring licensure.
-
Building Contractors (BC) are contractors whose services are limited to commercial buildings and single or multiple dwelling residential buildings which do not exceed three stories in height, or to the remodeling, repair, or improvement of any size building if the services do not affect the structural members of the building.
-
Residential contractor (RC) are contractors whose services are limited to the construction, remodeling, repair, renovation or improvement of one, two or three family residences not exceeding two habitable stories.
